Volume Two -

Words from the btncl. studio

A well-made candle deserves thoughtful care. At btncl., every candle is hand-poured using a refined soy blend wax and exclusive perfume-grade fragrance oils — designed to elevate a moment, not rush through it.

Here’s how to get the most out of your candle, from first burn to final glow.

1. Your First Burn Sets the Tone

The first burn is everything.

Allow your candle to burn long enough to reach a full melt pool — that means melted wax touching the edge of the vessel. Soy wax has memory, so how it burns the first time determines how it burns forever.
If you extinguish too early, you risk tunnelling — a ring of wasted wax that won’t melt properly later.

Rule of thumb: Burn until the entire surface is liquid before extinguishing.

2. Trim the Wick — Always

Before every burn, trim your wick to around 6mm.
This prevents mushrooming, reduces smoke, and helps your candle last longer.

If soot forms on the inside of the vessel, simply extinguish the flame, allow it to cool, then wipe the inside rim with a clean cloth. Trim, and relight.

3. Never Burn in a Draught

Burning near an open window, door, or air conditioner may seem harmless — but airflow affects everything:

  • Uneven melting

  • Flickering or smoke

  • Reduced scent throw

Create stillness, and your candle will respond in kind.

4. Don’t Blow It Out

To extinguish your candle, use a snuffer or dip the wick gently into the melted wax, then straighten it. This prevents smoke and splatter, and helps the wick relight cleanly.

Avoid blowing out your candle — it can cause a mess and disrupt the wick.

5. Burn Time Matters

We know you’ll want to burn it all day — but don’t.

Burning for more than 4 hours at a time can overheat the vessel and reduce your candle’s total lifespan. For longevity and performance, shorter sessions are best.

6. The Scent Lingers

Even after you’ve extinguished the flame, the scent will continue to softly linger.
Let the space absorb it. That’s the beauty of a well-composed fragrance.

Candle care isn’t complicated — but it makes a difference.

With proper use, your btncl. candle will burn longer, cleaner, and more evenly — exactly as it was designed to.
